Portable Monitor Setup for MacBook: What Actually Works
The short answer: a MacBook Air with an M1, M2 or M3 chip drives only one external display over USB-C. If you want two extra screens on a MacBook, you need either a DisplayLink-based solution with a driver, or a MacBook Pro. This is a limitation in Apple's display engine, not in the monitor you buy.

If you have a MacBook Air and plug in two separate USB-C monitors, the second one will mirror the first or stay black. No monitor brand can change this by itself.

- Your exact chip. Apple menu, then About This Mac. "M2" and "M2 Pro" are different answers.
- Driver support for your macOS version. Ask which versions are supported today, not which are planned.
- Whether the screens work as extended displays. Some setups can only mirror on a Mac, which gives a bigger copy of one screen rather than more workspace.
- Screen size versus your laptop. A 14-inch attachment on a 13-inch MacBook overhangs slightly; on a 16-inch it sits flush.
- Total weight. Portable dual screens run from roughly 1 to 1.8 kg, on top of the laptop.

The compatibility picture, stated plainly: it works with MacBook models using the M1, M2, M3 and M5 chips after installing the macOS driver, and with Intel MacBooks without a driver. MacBook models with the M4 chip are not supported. If you have an M4 Mac, this is not the product for you today.
